Dr. Winkenwerder to speak at Saint Francis Health System 2011 Grand Rounds Event

On November 17, 2011, Dr. Bill Winkenwerder will speak at the Saint Francis Health System Grand Rounds in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He will present to the hospital staff during a luncheon and then present to the physicians during a dinner event. 

 

Dr. Winkenwerder will present, “Health Care Reform and the 2012 Elections” which will cover how the Obama Administration has begun to implement the Affordable Care Act, signed into law in March 2010, with its subsidies, exchanges, mandates, expansions of Medicaid, new taxes, and hundreds of other provisions.  Most elements of the law will not go into effect until 2014, but already there has been a tremendous push-back against it from conservatives, Republicans, and many independents.  Repeal of Obamacare was a Republican rallying cry in the 2010 mid-term elections; the issue played a major part in the change of control of the House of Representatives.  The constitutionality of the law is now headed to the Supreme Court, following challenges in the lower courts.  Public opinion continues to favor repeal of the law. 

 

What will happen during the 2012 Election Season?  How will Obamacare play into the positions of the candidates for President and for Congress?  How might it affect the election results?  Conversely, how might the 2012 election outcomes alter this complex bill?  Will Obamacare remain the basic architecture for a “reformed” U.S. health care system?  Or will “repeal and replace” introduce more conservative ideas and policies that are woven into the fabric of a reformed system?  What role will states play?  How will debt, deficits, and a foundering economy figure into the overall equation?
